A Foley catheter, also known as an indwelling urinary catheter, is a flexible tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine. It is commonly used in medical settings for patients who are unable to urinate naturally due to surgery, medical conditions, or immobilization. The catheter features two separate channels (lumens): 1. Drainage lumen allows urine to flow from the bladder into a drainage bag. 2. Balloon lumen used to inflate a balloon near the tip of the catheter that holds it in place inside the bladder. Key Features: Made of latex or silicone (100% silicone is preferred for long-term use or for patients with latex sensitivity). Available in various sizes, typically ranging from 6Fr to 26Fr (French gauge). Balloon capacity generally ranges from 530 mL, depending on the application. Available in 2-way and 3-way types (3-way for irrigation purposes).
